Temporarily Stolen by Facebook
Well, starting 2 weeks ago people suddenly started telling me I should join Facebook. By the time it was the 4th or 5th person I figured there's a message in here. So I joined. While I waited to figure out what the message was I ended up with 50 something friends (long history with our Shambhala sangha), learned how to send things, and opened a zoo.

Finally the message came through. I learned of a Buddhist chaplaincy program that will be perfect for me and I don't know if I would have found it without one connection leading to the other. Of course now I go and check about three times a day because I have so many friends I had lost touch with.

Do some people live on their computers? It's been hard to not have a whole week go by before I realize I haven't written here, which I like to do. As I understand it people also have Flicker and Twitter and Second Life (like I could figure out time for the first one).

I have only email and LJ, yet I barely keep up with reading my friends' messages and posts, let alone writing any of my own or commenting. Perhaps the more physically youthful among us need less sleep? Or type faster? Perish the thought that they may think faster. (Okay, they do, but I'm in my happy place, where that reality is only dimly perceived.)

How I would use Twitter escapes me. In the midst of things happening, sending out a message about them just wouldn't occur to me. I'm more likely to think of something to post later in the day, but not so likely to have the energy actually to do it.

Facebook is a great networking site from all I've heard, but it's a bit too public for me. Having my identity borrowed before I so much as had an email account has left me with an enduring appreciation for anonymity.

Speaking of such matters, though, perhaps some of the more widely read bloggers among our friends would be interested in applying for the best job in the world. $100,000 US to sit on an Australian beach and blog about it? I can think of a few people who'd be great at that!

I did hear about that job and would be applying now if I wasn't caring for my Mom! I figure I spend at least 2 hrs a day on the computer just keeping up with blogs and e-mail. I found it interesting how many people in Facebook had comments like "are you kidding" under the favorite tv shows area.

I can't remember the last time I watched tv. I unwind at night with the blogs.

Twitter is raising the question in me about how people's consciousness is evolving - this is probably a whole post in itself but people are moving into a place of always being connected to each other, which may not be a bad thing. It started with e-mail and cell phones. Then the constant contact increased with blogs. Now we had people sharing themselves with others all over the world. Now we have them posting little things about themselves all during the day.

For me if I broke my concentration that much I'd never get anything done so I think there is another type of consciousness forming that can do that.

Hi Sweetie! You really must find some time to meet half way and see each other!:>) I like LJ because I like to write my thoughts out but it is fun being in touch with so many people on Facebook. Through reconnecting with people I met over the years in my Shambhala community I ended up with over 65 friends in 5 days. Most are people I would not be in touch with otherwise, so I really like that.

I will friend you. I forget do you use both last names?
